US president Donald Trump is promising to change the way the US spends on defence and the UK’s Trident nuclear programme is under pressure.

The way different countries spend on arms in coming years is going to change but almost all of them will be spending more.

Over the next few years some of the world’s biggest countries are going to ramp up their military spending, according to the latest GlobalData research. China’s defence spending will approach $400bn per year though the US will remain the clear leader with annual bills of $637bn.

Countries that are going to increase their defence spending the most are Saudi Arabia, Russia, Pakistan, China, Argentina, and Indonesia.
