Mobile money operator Chams Mobile has partnered with Nigerian lender Skye Bank to introduce a Visa e-gift payment card.
The new offering follows the launch of Kegow’s virtual Visa card in August 2015. Kegow is the programme and card brand of Chams Mobile.
The card works similarly to Kegow’s virtual Visa card, allowing ChamsMobileKegow subscribers to send monetised gifts to family, friends and business associates.
The digital payment card, which is used for online and mobile use locally and internationally, will give recipients a full picture of the virtual e-gift card on their mobile screen, PC, or tablet.
Chams Mobile deputy managing director Gavin Young said that the new product would bring a multitude of opportunities and benefits to Nigerians, describing the Visa e-gift card as an extremely diverse product that can be sent to recipients on so many occasions, like birthdays, weddings, graduation, baby showers, religious occasions, get well, housewarming, retirement, a simple ‘thank you’, and more.
Young said: "The e-gift card is ideal for someone looking to send a last-minute gift with immediate delivery, or wants to schedule the e-gift card to be sent on a specific day or future date, such as birthdays, along with a personalised message.
"The e-gift card is also linked to a broad range of financial services giving the recipient many options for using the card. These include: purchasing goods and services online wherever Visa cards can be used, both locally and internationally, buying airtime, transferring funds to bank accounts, etc.
"Users actually get to see all the essential features of a physical card, but in its ‘virtual form’; card number, expiry date and CVV number. This, for many consumers and businesses, is enough to replace the need for a physical plastic card linked to a traditional bank account."
