American video game retailer GameStop is reportedly testing a private-label credit card among its employees, which is expected to be launched before this year’s holiday season.
GameStop executive vice president for business strategy Mike Hogan told Star-Telegram that the new card is in response to customer demand and "would provide them another way to buy a new gaming console and pile up rewards points with the retailer."
The company is working with an external partner on the credit card that runs similar programs for other retailers. The interest rate will be in line with other private-label retail cards, Hogan said.
GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program began in 2010 and has more than 27 million members in the US.
