Network International, a payments firm in the MEA region, has partnered with IDEMIA and Mastercard to roll out new mobile point-of-sale (PoS) solution , dubbed Tap-on-Phone, for contactless electronic payments.
Under the pilot project, Network International’s merchants in the UAE will be able to use near-field communication (NFC)-enabled smartphones to accept the ‘tap and go’ transactions.
This will be made possible through an app that can be installed on the mobiles, thereby eliminating the need for a different payment terminal or peripheral device and related expenses.
In addition, large businesses can use the new solution to provide their customers with secure and convenient payment-on-delivery service.
The solution includes Mastercard’s advanced security technologies to ensure quick yet safe payments on the merchant’s device, while IDEMIA is working towards delivering the solution through its network of more than 1,800 financial institutions and mobile operators.
Network International group head of product & innovation Paul Clarke said: “Network International is delighted to introduce this innovation to our UAE merchants in collaboration with global technology leaders, IDEMIA and Mastercard.
“The initiative reaffirms our commitment to enhancing the UAE’s payment ecosystem through innovative technologies and global best practice and we look forward to expanding its success across our MEA network.”
Mastercard UAE & Oman general manager Girish Nanda said: “With ‘Tap-on-Phone’, our latest digital payment solution, merchants, particularly small and micro merchants, who have traditionally taken cash and check payments, can enable their customers to make contactless transactions by making the most out of their existing digital devices.
“This will also contribute to the country’s efforts to empower its small and medium enterprises, the main backbone of its economy, to further its economic growth and development.”
