American mobile payments firm Square has expanded to its fourth market by launching its credit card readers and point-of-sale (POS) devices in Australia.
Square Reader is a small, mobile credit and debit card reader that plugs directly into the headphone jack of your smartphone or tablet.
The reader pairs with Square’s free POS software that delivers tools ranging from accepting payments to analyzing sales data and tracking inventory.
The device accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit or debit card payments. It costs $19 in Australia and charges 1.9% transaction fee.
Square CEO Jack Dorsey said: "With Square Reader in Australia, we’re empowering local sellers with the tools they need to start, run, and grow their businesses. This is an important step for our company and an exciting moment for a market so committed to innovation and an entrepreneurial small business community."
