Telecom Italia has partnered with the European mobile card payments provider payleven to offer its customers a new mobile card payments solution, mPOS chip card readers.
The move by the company comes after the Italian government passed a new law forcing firms to accept debit card payments for any transaction over 30.
The chip and pin card reader and a mobile app will allow its business owners to use their smartphone or tablet to accept payments.
Telecom Italia said it will distribute the payleven card readers at no cost to all customers of its Impresa Semplice 1GB package.
The payleven bluetooth reader normally retails for 129.
Telecom Italia business marketing director Enrico Trovati said the partnership with payleven allows them to broaden their offer of advanced payment solutions.
"We are convinced that our joint solution allows small business owners to comply with the new regulations in a simple and inexpensive way, as well as giving them the opportunity to boost customer satisfaction," Trovati added.
