Tesco has launched a new e-gift card service in a bid to offer customers the ability to make the giving of digital gift cards a more personal experience.
Through the service, customers will be able to tailor Tesco e-Gift Cards for the recipient with digital ‘unwrapping’ animations and personalised messages. Gifts will also be positioned as experiences e.g. “the big night in” or “have lunch on me”.
Sigga Sigurdardottir, chief customer officer at Tesco Bank, said: “We know from customer insight and independent research that gift cards are an extremely popular gift, whether it’s for a birthday, to say thank you, or to simply treat someone.
“We also know that people would appreciate the personal touch when gifting or receiving a gift card. By combining personalisation with the wide choice and flexibility that our gift cards offer, our new service means that the giving of a gift card from Tesco – whether it’s to a family member, friend or loved one – is that little bit more special.”
The launch comes after a new YouGov survey commissioned by Tesco revealed that 70% of UK adults view gift cards as good presents to receive. However, 50% believe they are not as exciting as physical gift and 42% view them as impersonal.
Tesco’s e-Gift Card is delivered to the recipient via email – a tactic designed for convenience. Furthermore, the gift cards range between £5 to £150 and are available at https://www.tescogiftcards.com/.
In May, Tesco Bank hit the headlines after its customers were told they had defaulted on payments despite being granted credit card payment freezes due to Covid-19.
The customers who were granted the three-month payment freeze received a warning from credit agencies despite prior reassurances from the city watchdog that they “will not have their credit file affected”.
In response, Tesco Bank acknowledged that there had been a number of cases where a missed payment had been registered before the payment holiday had been processed.
