The US Secret Service has arrested Russian national Roman Valerevich Seleznev for hacking retailers and stealing credit card information throughout the US between October 2009 and February 2011.
Seleznev, who was indicted in Washington state in March 2011, is accused of hacking into servers and international carding forum websites to steal credit card data. He used servers controlled from the Ukraine and Russia to remotely access information.
Seleznev’s alleged international computer hacking ring profited more than $2m from selling 140,000 credit card numbers online, the indictment states.
Seleznev, who is known as ‘Track2’, will remain in custody pending trial.
Russian foreign ministry has accused the United States of ‘kidnapping; Seleznev, saying in a statement, "We consider this the latest unfriendly move from Washington."
