Wirecard has collaborated with Munich Airport and Alipay to enable Chinese tourists to pay for goods and services using the mobile payment service Alipay app in 69 eurotrade shops.
Starting mid-July 2016, the affiliated shops and departures areas of Munich Airport will accept mobile payment though Alipay App by the Chinese tourists on their arrival.
In order to facilitate the hassle-free payment processing, Wirecard has integrated Alipay Barcode Payment into eurotrade’s central till system.
Wirecard said that the Alipay mobile payment by barcode will be done in all 69 eurotrade shops, at approximately 160 tills in total, both in the public area and the transfer zones.
A customer wishing to make a contactless payment using their Alipay App will have shows the retailer the barcode on their smartphone screen.
The retailer then scans the barcode with their scanner and instantly starts the payment process. The customer confirms the purchase by entering their password and subsequently also receives a paper payment receipt.
eurotrade Flughafen München Handels managing director Sven Zahn said: "We are delighted to soon be able to offer these visitors who have extremely high purchasing power the Chinese payment method Alipay in all our shops, which means currency exchange will no longer be required."
