Norway-based biometric fintech firm Zwipe has extended its partnership with Latin America’s smart card manufacturer Thomas Greg and Sons do Brasil (TGS).
Under the renewed partnership, TGS will begin manufacturing biometric payment cards at a small scale – which will be integrated with Zwipe Pay ONE platform.
TGS is planning to eventually increase the production of its biometric-based contactless payment cards in response to the growing need for secure and contactless payments.
TGS CEO Hernani Finazzi said: “We are now seeing increasing interest in biometric payment cards in our region, especially as consumers become much more familiar with contactless payments and demand safer and more hygienic payment alternatives in-store.
“We have worked closely to adapt our manufacturing processes to integrate Zwipe’s biometric solution in our card production and we are excited to take this partnership to the next level.”
Zwipe and TGS have been partners since April last year.
They have been working closely to tweak the technical aspects of the card and assess the current need for biometric-based payments in Latin America.
Zwipe CEO Andre Lovestam said: “Latin America is a fast-emerging region when it comes to payment card usage.
“We are extremely glad TGS is taking a key step to embrace the Zwipe platform and bring our collaboration to a new level.”
Earlier this month, Zwipe partnered with China-based smartcard manufacturer Watchdata Technologies, to roll out biometric contactless payment cards.
