Norway-based biometric fintech firm Zwipe has partnered with Italy-based smart card manufacturer Publicenter to launch advanced biometric payment cards.
The partners will also roll out wearables, and both these products will be brought to financial institutions and end-consumers across Europe.
Publicenter, which has over 40 years of experience in card production and personalisation, is a Visa and Mastercard-certified smart card manufacturer.
The company offers payment, loyalty and gift cards to major banking and retail customers across Europe and in Italy.
Publicenter said that in Italy 50% of transactions processed at point of sale (POS) terminals were contactless before the Covid-19 pandemic began.
As the need for contactless payment surged during the pandemic, it plans to extend the new biometric payment solutions to its customers as businesses commence.
Publicenter CEO Sandro Mucelli said: “We have seen first-hand the potential of biometric payment cards and successful market trials in Italy, run on the Zwipe platform.
“With many of our customers asking for this product, we are confident that the partnership with Zwipe will be the most cost-effective and time-efficient route for us to offer this solution at scale.” Recently, Zwipe extended its biometric payment cards partnership with TGS in Latin America. Last month, Zwipe partnered with China-based smartcard manufacturer Watchdata Technologies, to roll out biometric contactless payment cards.
Zwipe CEO Andre Lovestam said: “We are excited to work with Publicenter who have strong engagements with banks and retailers across Europe, including in our own home region of the Nordics.
“Working together, we will identify new commercial opportunities for both companies and implement a successful roll-out of Zwipe Pay ONE.”
