Bank Muscat has signed an agreement with Oman National Engineering & Investment Company (ONEIC), which operates in utilities and engineering sectors, to facilitate point-of-sale (POS) card payment across the ONEIC outlets in Oman.
Under the agreement, ONEIC will install more than 200 Bank Muscat POS terminals at its 77 outlets to accept card payments.
Furthermore, ONEIC is rolling out a new mobile app, dubbed Bill and Pay, for which Bank Muscat will provide the internet payment gateway.
Bank Muscat customers will also be able to pay ONEIC bills using the banks online and mobile banking platforms.
Bank Muscat deputy CEO Waleed Al Hashar said: “The bank is making all efforts to support merchants to adopt electronic payment as a business model.
“The initiative is aimed at complementing government efforts in making e-payment the preferred mode of payment and motivating a change in consumer behaviour that makes ‘payment by cards’ both a habit and preference in view of convenience and security.”
ONEIC CEO Rashid Mohammad Al Ghailani said: “The electronic payment facility ensures convenience and security across a wide network of POS and online channels. We are proud to sign this agreement with Bank Muscat to provide uninterrupted bill payment service to customers.”
