Discover Financial Services has added Samsung Pay support for its cardholders in the US, allowing them to make contactless payments at any merchant location where Discover cards and Samsung Pay are accepted.
Samsung Pay is compatible with payment terminals that use both magnetic secure transmission (MST) and near field communication (NFC) technology.
The new capability also allows Discover cardholders to transact using Samsung Pay on the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphones and wearables.
When paying through Samsung Pay, cardholders continue to receive the same benefits and services that they have been getting from Discover, such as flexible rewards, 100% US-based customer service and protection against unlawful purchases on their Discover card.
Besides enjoying Discover Cashback Bonus and Miles rewards, cardholders can earn Samsung Rewards points when they use Samsung Pay.
Samsung Rewards points can be redeemed for Samsung products, gift cards, and entry into instant-win giveaways of trips and other exciting prizes.
Discover Financial Services president of payment services Diane Offereins said: “The ability to use Samsung Pay provides Discover cardmembers with yet another innovative and convenient way to pay.
“As a growing number of consumers use their mobile devices to make every day purchases, we continue to expand our digital services so cardmembers have more choice in how they use their Discover cards.”
Samsung Pay is currently compatible with Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 active, Gear S2 (with NFC only) and Gear S3.
