Financial services company FIS has launched its online payment processing solution Worldpay in 26 markets across Africa. Both companies and merchants can use the new solution.
The company will leverage technology from Flutterwave into the Worldpay platform.
Flutterwave is a payments technology firm with operations in Africa. Last week, the company raised series B financing, with contribution from multiple investors, including FIS.
Worldpay eCommerce merchant customers will be able to use the solution for entry into African markets.
The solution will support various payment methods across Africa, including Visa and Mastercard card payments and other payments such as Verve, M-Pesa and MTN Mobile Money.
In addition, companies can access mobile money options to enable mobile shopping for consumers in Africa.
FIS Worldpay Merchant Solutions executive vice-president and Global eCommerce head Shane Happach said: “All over the world, we’re seeing how breaking down barriers to do business in emerging economies is driving sustainable growth in commerce.
“The opportunity Africa presents for multi-national companies is enormous, so it’s incumbent on technology leaders like Worldpay to ensure our clients can do business in every corner of the globe.”
FIS will invest in its location at the University of Cincinnati’s 1819 Innovation Hub, where it has plans to employ students to work on FinTech applications.
