Garmin International has selected NXP’s PN80T embedded Secure Element and NFC solution to secure NFC mobile payments on its Vivoactive 3 and Forerunner 645 Music wearable devices.
Featuring built-in GPS, vivoactive 3 offers various fitness and wellness monitoring tools such as fitness age and all-day stress tracking. The smartwatch was the first of Garmin’s offerings to feature Garmin Pay, supported by payments processors Mastercard and Visa.
Forerunner 645 Music incorporates integrated music, performance monitoring tools and advanced running dynamics.
Garmin said that NXP’s Secure Element teamed with NXP’s Loader Service solution will enable it to quickly deploy Garmin Pay in its products.
The Loader Service solution has been designed to simplify the payment feature integration process, as well as reduce expenses related to setup and maintenance.
Garmin vice president of worldwide sales Dan Bartel said: “In collaborating with NXP, we can better provide the ultimate on-the-go lifestyle to our customers.
“This technology, featured on the vivoactive 3 and Forerunner 645 Music, enables customers to leave their cash and credit cards at home and securely make purchases where NFC payments are accepted.”
