UnionPay International, in collaboration with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), has rolled out its host card emulation (HCE) and tokenisation based mobile payment service QuickPass in Macao.
Customers with UnionPay cards issued by ICBC Macao will be the first to enjoy this secure and convenient mobile payment service, according to the Chinese bank card association.
Besides supporting remote online payment, QuickPass enables offline contactless payment with mobile devices, wearables and UnionPay chip cards.
In order to ensure the optimum security, the mobile payment system uses dynamic key and tokenisation, and it does not show authentic card number during mobile QuickPass transactions. Additionally, the transaction information is well kept within the network of the issuer and UnionPay.
Through the bank’s app, ‘ICBC Mobile Banking’, users can synch their NFC-enabled Android smartphone to their UnionPay credit card issued by ICBC Macao, and thus get a mobile QuickPass card. The customers will then be able to tap-and-go with their smartphone at QuickPass terminals.
ICBC Macao sets the daily mobile transaction cap at MOP5,000 ($626) and cardholders can lower the cap according to their own needs.
Mobile QuickPass is being accepted at department stores, restaurants and drug stores in Macao.
