German payments firm Wirecard has introduced its boon mobile payment solution in the UK with Apple Pay support.
The solution allows consumers to make mobile payments at any NFC-enabled point-of-sale terminal accepting MasterCard Contactless. It is supported on NFC-enabled Android smartphones with OS 4.4 or above.
The solution is based upon a Wirecard Card Solutions-issued digital prepaid MasterCard, and can be topped up through a credit card or bank transfer.
The plan is to eventually introduce loyalty offers and financial services to the product, including microcredits and peer-to-peer (P2P) payments.
Wirecard CEO Markus Braun said: "With boon, Apple Pay can now be part of everyone’s life in the UK without being a customer of a specific bank.
"Our aim is to take retail payments to the next level – through enhanced user-friendly payment experiences, leveraged by innovative, safe technology. boon is state-of-the art thanks to its usability and maximum security standards."
The solution has already been rolled out in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Ireland.
