Square, a US-based mobile payments firm, has introduced its new contactless and chip reader in Canada that enables local businesses to accept debit and credit cards payments from customers.
The payments firm said that the new reader accepts payments from contactless cards and Interac Flash and is suitable for a wide range of industries, from retail stores to beauty salons to cafes.
Furthermore, the chip reader is future-proof for the next wave of payment technology such as Apple Pay and Android Pay.
In order to complete the transaction, the users need to wave their contactless-enabled debit card, credit card, or mobile device, or insert their chip credit card.
Square CEO Jack Dorsey said: “Businesses of all sizes should have access to technology that can help them succeed-starting with an affordable, quick and easy way to accept more ways their customers want to pay.
“We believe everyone should be able to participate and thrive in the economy, and by levelling the playing field for local businesses, we can shorten the distance between having an idea and making a living from it.”
The contactless and chip reader is available at $59.
