The value marked an increase of 134.7% over the previous month and a drop of 26.7% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $6.84bn.
Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $3.73bn. At the country level, Japan topped the list in terms of deal value at $3.73bn.
In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for insurance industry M&A deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.
The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in May 2020 was the US with 20 deals, followed by Hungary with two and Japan with two.
In 2020, as of the end of May 2020, insurance M&A deals worth $48.76bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 495.8% year on year.

The top five insurance industry M&A deals accounted for 80.05% of the overall value during May 2020.
The combined value of the top five insurance M&A deals stood at $4.01bn, against the overall value of $5.01bn recorded for the month.

5) Golden Century International Holdings Group’s acquisition of United Able International for $0.39m.
