Changes and Cancellation 
We reserve the right to change event details if necessary, although we will endeavor to keep all changes to a minimum. We will inform you as soon as possible of important changes, for example name or date changes.
Substitutions may be made in writing at any time and will incur no penalty fee. Cancellations without a substitute delegate received a month prior to the event will be subject to a 20% cancellation charge. Delegates canceling after this date without a substitute delegate will be required to pay the full fee and no refund will be made. Cancellations must be received in writing or via email and will not be accepted over the phone.

 

Force Majeure

 

We reserve the right to cancel the event by reason of Force Majeure, included but not limited to fire, flood, extreme weather conditions, acts of war or violence, malicious damage, explosion, earthquake, strike, civil disturbances, political unrest, riot, labour dispute, power cuts or any other extraneous variable beyond Timetric’s control.

Michael TrippTim has over 30 years’ professional experience in the Life insurance industry, including acting as Finance Director for Equitable Life and AFH or Appointed Actuary for a number of UK and overseas Life Insurance companies. He has extensive experience of financial and regulatory reporting, from IFRS and US GAAP to ICA and Solvency II. Tim has operated at the most senior levels of Life Insurance Companies and hence has a very broad understanding of the issues and challenges facing senior management . Tim currently acts as Reviewing Actuary for the external audit of various life insurance companies.

Mark Broadhurst, Head of Insurance EMEA, Intellect SEEC

Mark BroadhurstMark was appointed Vice President & Head of Insurance EMEA in November 2013. He is responsible for the business delivery across Europe, and brings a wealth of 25 years industry knowledge. He was previously UK Sales Director at Equifax, working with the leading Banks, Insurance Companies, Fund Managers and Platforms. He was responsible for building the wealth business in the UK, and helping to shape the propositional delivery of wealth data analytics. Prior to this he was employed by Aviva Plc for over 23 years, and started life in property & casualty claims in the London market with General Accident. He soon moved in the life & pensions business, where he was responsible for various sales management roles in the UK. His last role with Aviva was European Sales Director for the International Corporate & Partnerships division.

Kevin Carr, Chief Executive, Protection Review

Kevin CarrKevin is Managing Director of PR and consultancy firm Carr Consulting & Communications and is also CEO of Protection Review. Kevin has been in the financial services industry since 1993. Following three years providing mortgage advice on the high street, Kevin progressed through several roles with independent protection specialist LifeSearch including Head of Protection Strategy and Director of Public Relations. In 2008 he joined PruProtect (now VitalityLife) as Director of Protection Development, a role which included all aspects of protection business including sales, marketing, product development and public relations. A previously qualified IFA and mortgage adviser Kevin is a well-known industry figure who speaks regularly to the media and at conferences on all matters related to protection. Kevin is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and has won many industry awards including accolades for protection advice, business strategy and PR. In 2006 Kevin was voted Protection Adviser of the Year and also the UK’s Best Financial Services Press Officer. In 2007 Kevin was named the Protection Review Personality of the Year and was voted the 2nd most influential person in the UK protection industry of the last ten years.
Phil Jeynes, Head of Sales & Marketing, UnderwriteMe

Phil JeynesPhil started in financial services straight from school, following his dream of becoming a clerk for a large building society. Having achieved this goal he went on to become a mortgage adviser and through this, discovered the world of Protection. A paucity of imagination has seen Phil become a well known figure in the life insurance sector, with roles in marketing, sales and PR at such leading firms as Direct life and Pensions, Vitality Life and now UnderwriteMe, where he is Head of Sales & Marketing for the digital innovator.


Eoin Lyons, CEO, OPAL

Eoin LyonsEoin is Chief Executive Officer of OPAL, a St Albans-based administration solutions and technology business. Prior to that he has spent over 25 years in the financial services sector, starting with roles in Ireland’s best known assurance and banking brands, as well as spending time in policy administration software solutions.
He joined the AXA Group in 1999 and was appointed Managing Director of AXA Assistance Ireland in 2008. He joined the UK Executive Committee in 2009 and moved to the UK to take the appointment of COO/CIO of AXA Assistance in 2013.
He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and completed an MBA at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in Dublin on full scholarship. He is a qualified Management Accountant and a Certified Insurance Practitioner.

Dr Umang Patel, Clinical Director, Babylon Health

Dr Umang PatelUmang is an NHS Paediatrician, served as a clinical fellow for the NHS Leadership Academy and a trustee of Attend, the UK’s national charity for volunteers. Umang has joined Babylon from Aviva, where he was the Director of Clinical transformation and responsible for a series of new initiatives in the model of healthcare delivery.

Ronan McCaugheyRonan McCaughey is editor of Life Insurance International at Timetric. Ian McKennaIn 1995 Ian founded a Fintech consultancy long before most people had ever heard of Fintech.
Having specialized in the analysis of UK Adviser Technology for over 20 years he was recently appointed by HM Treasury as an Independent Member of the Steering Group for their Pensions Dashboard project. This enables access of all pension scheme details ever saved online, in one place via a range of services delivered by financial institutions, financial advisers and FinTechs. Ian was the Technology columnist for two leading UK personal finance trade publications: Money Marketing (19 years) and Corporate Adviser (9 years).
He travels extensively researching the evolution of Digital Financial Advice and recently set up DigitalWealthInsights.com, an online service to analyse and benchmarks Digital Advice services globally.

Nicolas Meric, CEO & Founder, DreamQuark

Nicolas MericDuring his PhD in particle physics, Nicolas developed the idea of DreamQuark. He envisioned that insurance and health would benefit from the development of the newly emerging field of deep-learning. From his thinking, he developed DreamQuark, the first company in the world to work on these technologies for these sectors. He wants to develop a leader in artificial intelligence and provide cheap but more efficient diagnosis solutions and transform the sector of insurance as a whole. Nominees should follow these simple guidelines to ensure their submission has the best chance of winning.

 

Submission Rules 
  1. Submissions can be made either on behalf of your own company or in recognition of a colleague or partner firm.
  2. Maximum of 1,000 words in Word format, no appendices.
  3. Entry must address the award category explicitly, not generic links to web sites, corporate marketing etc.
  4. Submissions should highlight the key differentiator and competitive nature of the project or implementation
  5. It is made explicit the Entrant, Judges and the publication will treat any and all information in strict confidence and any quotes or information to go into the public domain will be pre-cleared by the Entrant.
  6. Submissions made after the publicised cut-off date will be ignored irrespective of their relative merits.
  7. The Editor and Judges reserve the right to make no award for any specific category
  8. The Editor and Judges reserve the right to move a submission to a more appropriate category at their discretion
  9. In submitting for more than one category the submissions must be unique (see 2)

Best Customer service innovation of the year 
This award identifies life and health insurers and reinsurers that are setting new standards in customer experience and engagement. 
  • The winning insurer / reinsurer in this category will have clearly implemented an innovative customer experience initiative backed by clear standards and validated monitoring of performance
  • Customer experience in this context is judged as covering customer analysis product differentiation and channel management
  • In particular, the judges will be looking for proof of the impact of the innovative strategy on retention levels and client satisfaction
Most innovative protection insurance intermediary of the year 
This award is open to regulated insurance brokers, financial advisers and intermediaries globally that are serving the life and health insurance market. The judges will be looking for an intermediary that can demonstrate a combination of some or all of the following: 
  • How they have responded to the demands of consumers with a product/scheme/ offering relevant to their needs
  • Top quality service
  • Evidence of any value-added services or support
  • Evidence of product and/or service innovation in the context of profitable growth
  • How a protection insurance intermediary used marketing/technology/social media to increase penetration and maximise the potential of the product/scheme/offering
Most innovative actuarial /risk consultancy services provider of the year 
This award is open to open to any insurer, broker or firm offering actuarial or risk consultancy services to clients. The judges will be looking for examples that demonstrate all or some of the following client benefits:
  • Improved governance systems and frameworks
  • Innovative solutions with tangible outcomes such as evidence of cost savings, reduced error rates or sustained revenue enhancement/profitability
  • Effective and efficient use of software solutions
Most innovative life / health insurance start-up of the year 
Open to any organisation less than three-years-old that can demonstrate success in making a noteworthy contribution to the global life and health insurance market in its short life time. 
  • Entrants could be an insurance provider, broker or intermediary that has identified a significant market failing and/or gap and filled it
  • A business that has helped advance the life and health insurance sector using the latest technologies either as a third-party provider or at the consumer interface level
  • The business may not be significantly profitable or fulfilled its objectives to date, but will need to demonstrate a plan that evidences great future potential for investors/customers
  • Evidence must show the strategic objective(s) of the start-up. For example, the success to date in meeting the objectives; the results/outcomes
Digital innovation of the year – Insurers 
This award will focus on an innovative and effective use of technology by life and health insurers and reinsurers as part of the wider shift to digitalisation. 
  • The judges will be looking for evidence of success in applying the latest technologies and generating profitable business in response to the increasing digital shift
  • Evidence will be required that the technology innovation is original, market-changing and will be long lasting
  • Evidence of improved customer engagement and personalisation
  • Evidence of enhanced customer service and an integrated adoption of tools such as big data and analytics
Digital innovation of the year –Technology Firms
This award will focus on an innovative and effective use of technology by technology firms and service providers that have built innovative technology and software, which is driving the wider shift to digitalisation in life and health insurance. It is open to any organisation providing an insurance technology or software service directly to the life / health insurance market. 
  • The judges will be looking for evidence the technology / software firm/ service provider has responded innovatively to the demands of the life and health insurance market
  • Evidence will be required that the technology innovation is original, market-changing and will be long lasting
  • Evidence will be required how the innovation significantly improves the experience for the customer and insurer
  • Evidence of enhanced business success through their relationship with the insurance market
  • Evidence of consistent levels of service and customer satisfaction, whether those customers are in business-to-business or business-to-consumer relationships.
Life / health insurance law firm of the year 
This award is open to law firms from around the world. It recognises the stand-out law firm, which is leading thought leadership in the life and health market, challenging the status quo and offering an exemplary service. Life and health insurance must be a core discipline and demand a real focus from the firm. The judges will consider: 
  • Team focus – Does it have a specialised life and health insurance legal team?
  • Thought Development – is the firm proactive in challenging and informing the industry?
  • Does the law firm have a strong and growing market reputation in the life and health insurance market?
Advisory firm of the year
This award is open to any organisation providing an advisory, intelligence, professional or technical service directly to the life insurance market The judges will be looking for: 
  • Evidence a business has responded innovatively to the demands of the market
  • Evidence of consistent levels of service and customer satisfaction, whether those customers are in business-to-business or business-to-consumer relationships.
  • Evidence of enhanced business success through their relationship with the insurance market.
Most innovative health insurer of the year 
This award is open to health insurers globally whose innovations over the past year are substantially improving the user experience, as well as increasing the health insurer’s business efficiency and profitability
  • Health insurers must evidence innovations in the following areas: product; distribution channel; market segmentation; customer experience; and marketing / brand engagement
  • The judges will be seeking evidence that the health insurance innovation is market-changing and will be long lasting

Personal Awards – These awards are presented to individuals as such, these will be awarded by the judging panel without prior nomination

 

Rising star award

 

Open to anyone working in the life and health insurance and reinsurance industry aged 35 or under 
  • This award will go to the person who has made significant strides in their professional development over the past year, clearly demonstrating their contribution to the team or department in which he or she works.
  • The winner does not need to have risen to a senior position, but will be someone who their peers agree has had a positive impact on the life and health insurance industry.
Personality of the year 
This special award will be presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in the global life and health insurance and reinsurance market over the last 12 months, whether through the advancement of the organisation that employs them; or the wider life and health insurance and reinsurance industry. 
  • The winner could be someone who has led a sea change within a business through their strategic vision and/or a successful acquisition;
  • The winner could also be someone who has helped the wider sector through their engagement with stakeholders, regulators and politicians to affect a notable change that benefits the industry’s standing in the eyes of the public and commerce
  • The winner will have driven new developments across the industry
