the used van and car market in any scrappage scheme it would
introduce to boost demand for vehicles from consumers and
rental industry asked Treasury minister Angela Eagle that used
vehicles of at least Euro 4 standard emitting 165g/km or less be
included in the scrappage scheme.
This would allow those buyers who can’t afford a new car or van
to scrap their older vehicle for something newer and less
The CEO of the BVRLA John Lewis said: “Allowing people to buy a
newer, more fuel-efficient vehicle they can afford will have the
government’s desired impact of reducing emissions and stimulating
the new car and van market, as this trading-up will feed directly
through to showrooms.”
The BVRLA has also asked the government to include in its 2009
budget a moratorium on the fuel duty increase plan, as well as on
the plan to raise the annual goods and passenger vehicle test fee
by 9 percent.
