The top five companies accounted for 51% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Contemporary Amperex Technology filed the most batteries patents within the technology industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 810 batteries-related patents in the quarter, compared with 947 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Samsung SDI with 485 batteries patent filings, Panasonic (310 filings), and BYD (243 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 22% share of total patent filings
The largest share of batteries related patent filings in the technology industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 22%, followed by the US (19%) and Japan (13%). The share represented by China was 0.65% lower than the 23% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
