C Hoare & Co. has unveiled Steven Cooper as its new chief executive officer. Cooper joins the English private bank from Barclays, where he had been CEO of Barclaycard Business since April 2017.
“Steven joins from Barclays Bank and has a wealth of experience gained from three decades as a banker both in the UK and overseas,” a statement from C Hoare & Co says.
“In his most senior roles, he was chief executive officer of Barclays Personal Banking UK and Europe and chief executive officer of Barclaycard Business. In his time at Barclays, he worked in a wide range of areas, including retail and business banking, payments, data, digital and fintech.”
During his 20-year career with Barclays, Cooper spent four years with its Africa group, as corporate director in Kenya and Botswana and chief operating officer in South Africa, according to Linkedin. He also sits on several advisory boards, which have included Business in the Community’s Age at Work Campaign and has recently been appointed a Commissioner of the Social Mobility Campaign.
“C. Hoare & Co. has a great brand, reflecting an unrelenting focus on serving its customers and understanding their individual needs. It stands for trust and integrity and I’m excited about building this for the future,” Cooper said,
Family owned for the entirety of its long existence, its doors first opening in 1672, C Hoare & Co is the United Kingdom’s oldest bank and the fourth oldest bank in the world. Its assets passed the £4 billion mark in July of last year.
Cooper replaces David Green, who has served as C. Hoare & Co.’s chief executive and managing director since 2016.
