Europe’s financial services industry saw a rise of 27.1% in overall deal activity during Q2 2019, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 253 deals worth $12.39bn were announced for the region during Q2 2019, against the last four-quarter average of 199 deals.
Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q2 2019 with 145, representing a 57.3% share for the region.
In second place was venture financing with 85 deals, followed by private equity deals with 23 transactions, respectively capturing a 33.6% and 9.1% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in Europe’s financial services industry with $9.23bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $2.16bn and $994.89m, respectively.
Europe financial services industry deals in Q2 2019: Top deals
The top five financial services deals accounted for 55.7% of the overall value during Q2 2019.
The combined value of the top five financial services deals stood at $6.9bn, against the overall value of $12.39bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced financial services deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was Deutsche Borse’s $3.5bn asset transaction with Refinitiv.
In second place was the $1.06bn acquisition of Allianz Popular by Banco Santander and in third place was Nuvei Bidco’s $889m acquisition of SafeCharge International Group.
The $729.42m acquisition of Liverpool Victoria General Insurance Group by Allianz (UK) and General Atlantic’s private equity deal with Deutsche Borse for $715m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
