First Bank of Nigeria, the largest bank in Nigeria by assets, is to shut down operations between Thursday 6 June and Monday 1 June 2013.
The bank’s decision to shut down operations facilitates its migration to Finacle 10.
The shut down affects over 700 branches nationwide.
In addition to branches being shut, point of sale transactions, transaction alerts by SMS, all card services (except Visa prepaid cards) will not be available via quick teller and on the web.
First Bank has promoted its shut down via their website, text message, email, twitter and posted a video which you can view: here.
The bank will operate skeletal services through ATMs until 5pm on Sunday and restored on 6am on Monday.
According to the bank, online banking services will also be available at these times.
Bisi Onasanya, group managing director, First Bank, said: "I am particularly excited at the prospect of this milestone as it represents the opportunity to significantly transform our service delivery to you in many respects, while also supporting our plans for the introduction of new and innovative products as we anticipate your every banking need. This is a major project and on account of the technical requirements, we regret that there will be some disruptions to our services for about three days, while the upgrade is ongoing."
The decision to close the branch network over this time is causing anxiety among customers of the bank who have complained about the planned shutdown.
Banks have already received complaints from customers not being able to withdraw cash from ATMs.
