First Internet Bank, a US-based provider of online banking services, has launched Touch ID functionality for customers using its personal mobile banking application.
Touch ID will use built-in fingerprint-sensor technology to authenticate customers to log into their mobile banking application in place of traditional login credentials.
Fingerprints will be stored on a user’s device and will be encrypted with a key, only accessible to the device.
Touch ID access will be initially available to First Internet Bank customers running the bank’s personal mobile banking app on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and will be extended to iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 in the future.
First Internet Bank president and CEO David Becker said: "Our customers have come to expect a rich digital banking experience from us. With speed and ease-of-use, Touch ID demonstrates our continued commitment to applying technology and practical design to meet our customers’ needs."
