The patent application (Publication Number: US20240015292A1) describes a method for decoding a video involving obtaining prediction blocks based on reference pictures, determining weights for these blocks, and generating a bi-prediction block through a weighted sum. The reconstruction block of the current block is then obtained based on this bi-prediction block. The weights are determined based on a plurality of weight candidates, with the number of candidates being influenced by the temporal directions of the reference pictures. Additionally, the method involves encoding information derived from a bitstream using truncated unary binarization.

Furthermore, the patent application also details a method for encoding a video, which includes obtaining prediction blocks based on reference pictures, determining weights for these blocks, generating a bi-prediction block through a weighted sum, and obtaining a residual block by subtracting the bi-prediction block from an original block. Similar to the decoding method, the weights are determined among a plurality of weight candidates, with the number of candidates being influenced by the temporal directions of the reference pictures. Information indicating the selected weight candidate is encoded using truncated unary binarization. Additionally, the application includes a transmitting apparatus for data transmission of image information, where the weights for prediction blocks are determined based on a plurality of weight candidates influenced by the temporal directions of the reference pictures.
