The top five companies accounted for 11% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that State University System of Florida filed the most Covid-19 patents within the technology industry in Q4 2023. The company filed 2 Covid-19-related patents in the quarter, compared with 1 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Laboratory Corp of America Holdings with 2 Covid-19 patent filings, Johns Hopkins University (2 filings), and Iaterion (2 filings) in Q4 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 73% share of total patent filings
The largest share of Covid-19 related patent filings in the technology industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 73%, followed by China (10%) and Australia (3%). The share represented by the US was 20% higher than the 54% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
