A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11889020B2) discloses a device and method for enhancing Caller Name or Caller ID data to provide users with more information about incoming calls. The device includes a processing system with a processor and memory storing executable instructions. When a call is detected over a network, the system initially provides a default Caller Name or Caller ID to the user equipment. If the system determines to challenge the call originator, a request is transmitted to prompt the originator to specify their identity and the purpose of the call. Information obtained from the originator is transformed using natural language processing techniques to enhance the Caller Name or Caller ID data provided to the user equipment, enabling users to decide whether to answer the call based on the additional information.

Furthermore, the patent includes a non-transitory machine-readable medium with executable instructions for a user equipment processing system to prevent calls from being received, obtain data from a network system regarding the call originator, and present this data to the user equipment. Users can then decide to accept the call based on the information provided. The method involves detecting incoming calls, determining whether to present a query to the originator, receiving input from the originator, generating a short message service (SMS) message based on the input, and transmitting it to the user equipment. Additionally, the method allows for modifying default behavior on the user equipment to continue presenting media-based application content until the user decides to answer the call, enhancing user control and decision-making in call management scenarios.
