The top five companies accounted for 9% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Snap filed the most social media patents within the technology industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 35 social media-related patents in the quarter, compared with 56 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Adeia with 17 social media patent filings, Meta Platforms (17 filings), and Alphabet (14 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 44% share of total patent filings
The largest share of social media related patent filings in the technology industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 44%, followed by China (24%) and Japan (3%). The share represented by the US was 7% higher than the 37% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
