A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11907054B2) discloses a driver module designed to respond to fault conditions in a system. The driver module includes an error flag interface block with a single terminal error flag input/output (EF I/O) and a control block. The control block enables the error flag interface block to react to a signal indicating a fault condition, inhibits the switching of the module's output in response to an external fault condition detected by the error flag interface block, and controls the setting of an error flag state on the EF I/O in case of a fault condition local to the driver module. The fault conditions considered include over-current, over-voltage, and over-temperature scenarios.

Moreover, the patent also covers a system incorporating the driver module, featuring a fault condition bus and at least one driver module connected to it. The system operates similarly to the driver module, with the error flag interface block and control block working in tandem to respond to fault conditions, inhibit module operation in case of external faults, and set error flag states for local fault detections. The system's fault condition bus can be a single wire bus, and a system controller is included to manage reset states and error flag states. The driver module can function as a half-bridge inverter, a 3-phase motor drive inverter, or a combined driver and power switch in a single package, offering versatility in various applications.
