A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US12001594B2) discloses a data storage chassis designed with innovative features for efficient data storage management. The chassis includes a plurality of data storage cartridges and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) that can be detachably connected to different subsets of the cartridges using a motor. A wireless interface controller facilitates wireless communication of data between the chassis and a host using fifth-generation (5G), millimeter, and sub-millimeter frequency ranges. The wireless interface controller also provides movement control commands to the motor controller, enabling the movement of PCBAs in various directions as dictated by the commands.

Additionally, the data storage chassis may include data storage cartridges with data storage discs or solid-state memory. The wireless interface controller can be a chassis-level controller for all PCBAs or one of multiple controllers connected to different subsets of PCBAs. The chassis also features a power distribution circuit capable of receiving wireless power from an external source. Moreover, the wireless interface controller is equipped to detect unauthorized access to the chassis and, in such instances, direct the disconnection of PCBAs from the data storage cartridges to prevent unauthorized data access. These advanced functionalities make the data storage chassis a promising solution for secure and efficient data storage management in various applications.
