A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11979389B1) outlines a method for provisioning message encryption in mobile communications. The process involves the use of a trusted application on a subscriber device to generate public and private keys, encrypt messages, and securely store keys. The encrypted messages are then sent to a cloud messaging application, which forwards them to an OEM cloud service for decryption. Once the subscriber device is verified as trustworthy, the messages are decrypted using the private key stored on the device, ensuring end-to-end encryption for communication types such as SMS, MMS, and RCS.

Furthermore, the patent details a method for end-to-end message encryption in mobile messaging after the provisioning process. This includes receiving an HTTPS message from an enterprise service at a cloud messaging service, decrypting and re-encrypting the message using the subscriber device's public key. The re-encrypted message is then transmitted to the subscriber device via various peer-to-peer protocols. The subscriber device decrypts the message using the private key stored during the provisioning process, ensuring secure communication. Additionally, the patent mentions the use of one-time-passwords for user authentication, delivery via SS7 protocol, and the encryption of OTPs using the subscriber device's public key by the cloud messaging application. The method also includes providing chat functionality for the subscriber device, with a second key pair generated for secure communication between the device and the enterprise application.
