A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230309773A1) describes a locking sleeve for connection with a valve box assembly of a central vacuum system. The locking sleeve has a first end that couples to the wall of the valve box assembly and a second end opposite the first end. It also has a central vertical axis and a first side adjacent to the rear wall of the valve box assembly. The locking sleeve features a slidable locking mechanism that selectively secures a vacuum hose assembly to the valve box assembly.

The locking sleeve includes a surface on the slidable locking mechanism that engages the vacuum hose assembly and is moveable parallel to the central horizontal axis. The slidable locking mechanism consists of a first locking member and a different second locking member. It can be moved between three positions: a first position where the locking members do not couple directly to the hose assembly, allowing it to freely extend and retract; a second position where the first locking member couples to the hose assembly, specifically to a hose cuff; and a third position where the second locking member couples to a hose rib positioned along the intermediate length of the vacuum hose assembly.

The slidable locking mechanism has an unlocked position, a first locked position, and a second locked position. In the first locked position, the first locking member is locked onto the end of the vacuum hose assembly, while in the second locked position, the different second locking member is locked onto a hose rib of the hose assembly. The different second locking member has a curved surface that corresponds to the curvature of the hose, and it has two major surfaces facing opposite ends of the locking sleeve.

When the slidable locking mechanism is in the second locked position, the different second locking member locks onto a portion of the hose assembly where only a partial length of the hose extends from the valve box assembly.

This locking sleeve design provides a secure and adjustable connection between the vacuum hose assembly and the valve box assembly of a central vacuum system. The slidable locking mechanism allows for easy attachment and detachment of the hose assembly while ensuring a reliable and stable connection during operation. The curved surface of the different second locking member ensures a snug fit with the hose, preventing any accidental disconnections. Overall, this locking sleeve offers improved functionality and convenience for users of central vacuum systems.
