A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11775603B2) describes a method and system for identifying and suppressing duplicate listings in search results. The method involves comparing a first listing associated with an entity to a representative listing associated with the same entity to determine a confidence score. If the confidence score is greater than or equal to a threshold level, the first listing is identified as a duplicate listing.

Once identified, the system retrieves a list of provider systems that provide search results containing the listing associated with the entity. The system then searches a specific provider system for a listing that matches the entity's listing. If a match is found, the system receives a provider-supplied external identifier associated with the matching listing.

The system then sends a request to the provider system to suppress the duplicate listing from search results generated in response to search requests submitted via that provider system. The request includes the provider-supplied external identifier. If the request is accepted, the system receives an acknowledgement confirming that the duplicate listing has been suppressed.

Additionally, the system receives a file from the provider system containing a record corresponding to the duplicate listing and a universal resource locator (URL) indicating that the listing is not in service via the provider system. The system extracts the URL from the file and executes a network request using the URL to verify that the duplicate listing associated with the entity is not in service via the provider system.

The system may also receive information identifying the representative listing from the source system. The confidence score represents the level of matching between the first listing and the representative listing. The system can transmit information to the provider systems identifying the representative listing. The request to suppress the duplicate listing can be transmitted via periodic network-based communication. The system can retrieve a list of provider systems maintaining listings corresponding to the entity from a database associated with the processing device.

In response to a user-generated search associated with the entity, search results will include the representative listing.

Overall, this patent describes a method and system for efficiently identifying and suppressing duplicate listings in search results, improving the accuracy and relevance of search results for users.
