Compact spiraled slot antennas for wireless devices
A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11881623B2) discloses a wireless device that includes one or more heat spreaders, printed circuit boards (PCBs), an antenna compliment ring with portions of multiple antennas, and compact spiraled slot antennas. These antennas are formed by coupling the heat spreaders, PCBs, and antenna compliment ring, allowing current to flow around the slot and through the PCBs to create an electric field for radiation. The dimensions of the compact spiraled slot antennas are less than one quarter of the output wavelength, with the slot protruding in multiple planes.
Furthermore, the wireless device described in the patent includes features such as a slot with an open and closed end, wide enough for a wide bandwidth, and a secondary slot for covering different frequencies. The antenna compliment ring also has elongated portions and flanges to enable direct feeding from the PCB. Additionally, components mounted within the slots can be compensated by adjusting slot dimensions and the feeding point location of the compact spiraled slot antennas. The device may also include air steps or ground steps for tuning the antennas, enhancing their performance.
