A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11968223B2) discloses a server designed for sharing network profiles for electronic devices connected to a network. The server includes a memory to store profiles associated with the make and function of each device, along with details of acceptable communications. When a request for a profile is received, the server's circuitry identifies applicable profiles based on the make and function specified in the request. It then generates a policy by combining these profiles, deduplicating acceptable communications, and including them in the policy to ensure efficient network communication.

Furthermore, the server can also handle detected communications specified in the request, modifying profiles if necessary to enable all detected communications. Additionally, the system includes a controlling electronic device that receives the generated policy from the server and implements it as a network policy. This network policy helps prevent electronic devices on the network from sending or receiving any communications other than those deemed acceptable, thereby enhancing network security. The network policy may include firewall policies or network access control measures to further safeguard network communication.
