Aramco and French quantum computing company Pasqal have announced the installation of Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer at the energy giant’s data centre in Dhahran.
The system, developed by Pasqal and based on neutral-atom technology, features a 200-qubit architecture arranged in programmable two-dimensional arrays.

By GlobalDataThis installation follows a series of collaborative steps between the two companies.
Aramco’s venture capital arm, Wa’ed Ventures, made an early investment in Pasqal in January 2023 and has since contributed to the quantum computing firm’s localisation initiatives in Saudi Arabia.
Pasqal opened an office in Saudi Arabia in 2023 and prior to that had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Aramco in 2022 to advance quantum computing applications within the energy sector.
Wa’ed Ventures also took part in Pasqal’s Series B funding round last year.
Aramco technology and innovation executive vice president Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter said: “Aramco is an established technology leader, which continues to innovate through the development and deployment of advanced digital solutions that have tangible benefits.
“We are deploying AI and other technologies at scale to further enhance our operations, maximise efficiency and unlock value across our business.
“Our partnership with Pasqal is a natural progression and we are thrilled to pioneer next-generation quantum capabilities, harnessing significant opportunities presented by this new frontier in computing.”
