3. The Pacific Trash Vortex: Oceanic plastic pollution

Plastic pollution in the world’s oceans covers vast areas.

The largest area of plastic pollution, the Pacific trash vortex, covers an area greater than the size of Texas (measurements vary) and according to Greenpeace contains six kilos of plastic for each kilo of plankton.

Recent analysis reveals the extent of large pieces of plastic to be much greater than previously thought.

Waste plastic trapped in ocean currents presents several problems for businesses, now under pressure to create solutions, adapt to government regulations and embrace corporate responsibility.

Despite the issues, many business opportunities are ready to be embraced.
