Cognizant has announced the creation of the OpenAI Frontier Capability Group, assembling more than 25,000 professionals to support enterprises in implementing OpenAI technologies such as ChatGPT and Codex.
The group aims to assist businesses in deploying these models across software development, customer service, and operational functions.

Experience unmatched clarity with a single platform that combines unique data, AI, and human expertise.
Rather than challenges in accessing frontier AI models, Cognizant stated that many organisations now require employees proficient in integrating advanced AI into essential business systems.
The company reported that over 21,000 of its employees have earned more than 40,000 OpenAI badges, recognising completion of internal learning tracks on OpenAI technology.
The new group expands on this foundation, focusing on building and maintaining OpenAI-powered systems for clients.
The effort will also involve Cognizant’s Frontier workforce model, through which the company is developing Frontier Business Operators and Frontier Certified Engineers in partnership with companies that produce frontier AI models.
Cognizant indicated that it often pilots new approaches within its own operations before extending them to its client base.
According to Cognizant, its sales and customer success teams already use solutions based on OpenAI models to identify and pursue business opportunities.
Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said: “Over the last 50 years, every shift in enterprise technology has changed who builds the systems and how.
“With Codex and ChatGPT, OpenAI is changing both at once. We are committing more than 25,000 of our people to bring that change inside our clients’ businesses. We started with our own, and OpenAI is beginning to reshape how we sell.”
The new group’s initial areas of focus will include using Codex for AI-assisted software engineering, applying OpenAI models for application modernisation, such as updating legacy mainframe code, and enhancing customer operations with AI-based tools.
OpenAI chief revenue officer Dali Rajic said: “OpenAI is helping businesses fundamentally rethink how they operate, from the way they serve customers to how they get work done.
“By bringing together more than 25,000 professionals in a dedicated OpenAI practice and putting our technology to work across its own operations, Cognizant is helping more enterprises turn AI into meaningful business impact.”
Cognizant noted its prior experience modernising core legacy systems for clients and deploying OpenAI-powered solutions in-house. One reported client project involved creating an enterprise assistant for a global biopharmaceutical company that managed more than five million conversations and reduced content creation time by 60%.
Last month, Cognizant expanded its partnership with Google Cloud by establishing the Gemini Frontier Capability Group to support the deployment of agentic AI in enterprise settings.
