E3 2018 conference schedule e3 2018 rumours

Confirmed:

  • Fallout 76 – After being rumoured for a while, Bethesda finally revealed Fallout 76 in an ‘interesting’ live stream a few days before E3. The only trouble was, it didn’t make clear what the game is. Rumours suggest it could be a prequel to previous games in the series. Others suggest it might be a survival game this time around.
  • Rage 2 – One of the games which was leaked through Walmart Canada’s online listings and then was proved to be true. This one is also set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction after an asteroid hit the planet. A few humans survive in underground ‘arks’ while the surface world is controlled by The Authority. The player must join the resistance to help bring the arks to the surface. Although the latest offering from first-person shooter inventors Id Software, it’s the first without any of the original team, so will be one to watch.

Almost certain:

  • Quake Champions – Due out properly this year after having been a playable beta for a while, we should definitely expect to see something of Quake Champions, the first addition to the Quake series since 2010. For those unfamiliar with the series, it’s an online multiplayer shooter. Those are popular at the moment, and if Bethesda adds some sort of battle royale mode, this could be a big seller.
  • Prey DLC – The official Prey Twitter account has been hinting at a major new DLC pack for Bethesda’s 2017 sci-fi horror game Prey. This is almost certainly going to happen.
  • Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset – It seems barely a day goes by when Bethesda doesn’t mention its Elder Scrolls take on Warcraft. With the new update taking players to the Summerset Isles on its way in June, this will probably get a mention.

Rumours:

  • Doom II – After finding success with its multi-platform release of Doom in 2016, Bethesda is strongly rumoured to be working on a follow-up to showcase at this year’s E3. The big question is which consoles it will appear on.
  • Fallout for Switch – Bethesda seems to love porting games to Switch at the moment. The only one of its major franchises which hasn’t moved to Switch yet is Fallout. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a portable entry for Nintendo‘s plucky handheld/home console hybrid. Perhaps remasters of Fallout 3 and 4 could be on their way to the Switch, among other consoles.
  • Starfield – We don’t even know whether Bethesda is working on a game called Starfield, let alone whether it’s ready for release. Still, rumours say it could be a major sci-fi game set in the Fallout universe. Whispers suggest it will feature space travel, hub worlds, and randomly generated worlds. Apparently it was going to be shown last year, but got pulled at the last minute.
  • Dishonoured – A bit of a far-out suggestion, but a few rumours say there’s a chance that a new Dishonoured game is about ready to be shown at E3. For all those who are fans of the steampunk assassin series, this will be high on the wishlist.
  • A new mobile game – Rumours aren’t clear about what this one will be. Most likely, it’ll be Fallout Shelter 2 but who knows? We do know Bethesda is working on at least one new mobile game, so chances are we’ll see something at E3. We just don’t know what it’ll be.

Sunday 10 June: Devolver Digital @ 8pm (watch here)

It’s probably best not to expect any new games from this one.

Last year Devolver Digital’s conference was a twenty minute skit, sending up various aspects of E3 and the people watching it.

Sure, it’s not totally outside the realm of possibility that something will be revealed, but you can probably put more money on this one being a bit of a joke.

On the next page we’ll share details on what to expect from Square Enix at E3 2018.
