E3 2018 conference schedule e3 2018 rumours

Confirmed:

  • Kingdom Hearts III – This will be Square Enix’s big talking point at this year’s E3. The last main-series Kingdom Hearts game saw release in 2005. Since then, fans have had nothing but spin-offs and remakes to content themselves with. Still, this one is definitely looking like it’ll be worth the wait, delivering the end to the story which began 2002.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider – Another title in the recently rebooted Tomb Raider series, this is definitely an exciting one for Lara Croft fans. Square Enix promises it will be a little darker and more adult than previous entries in the series (which have already been pretty dark and adult) so it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this one.
  • Just Cause 4 – Square Enix picked up publishing rights for the Just Cause series reasonably recently and has confirmed that a new title in the action adventure series is coming at E3. Aside from that though, we don’t know much!

Almost certain:

  • Octopath Traveller – This Switch RPG is out really soon, so you can probably expect to see a bit of coverage at E3. Still, given how much of the game has already been revealed, don’t expect this to be a central focus for Square Enix this year.
  • An Avengers game – Square Enix has been working with a Marvel license for a little while now, and we’d expect to see something from it soon. While Avengers: Infinity War has been and gone now, it’d make sense for Square Enix to do their best to get an Avengers game out to tie in with the upcoming Avengers movie that comes out next summer. If that’s the case then we should probably expect to see the first details or at least a trailer of the game now.
  • Final Fantasy VII remake – We know that work on a remake of Final Fantasy VII has been ongoing for a while, and the game was teased at last year’s E3. No one should be surprised to see this one making a big entrance once again at E3 2018.
  • Dragon Quest XI – After having launched in Japan nearly a year ago, Dragon Quest XI should definitely be around at E3. A few outlets have already done previews and had hands-on time with the game, so it could even be ready to launch soon. Perhaps Square Enix will surprise fans by dropping the game as an immediate release download during its presentation.
  • Life Is Strange 2 – Another one that has had a long and well-publicised development cycle. Admittedly, it’s a bit more of a mystery how far along its development is compared to some other Square Enix titles, but it’d be no real surprise to see this one making an appearance.

Rumours:

  • A Guardians Of The Galaxy game – In addition to the long-rumoured Avengers game, Square Enix has another Marvel title in the works. This is widely thought to be a Guardians Of The Galaxy game. Still, if the logic holds and they’re aiming to release the Avengers game for summer 2019 when the movie comes out, the next Guardians Of The Galaxy movie is scheduled for 2020 we might be waiting until next year to hear more on this.
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2 – Square Enix announced this game just a year ago but since then we’ve heard nothing about its development. We certainly could see the sequel to this quirky building simulator, but it’d be surprising.

On the next page we’ll share details on what to expect from Ubisoft at E3 2018.
