India’s technology industry saw a rise of 7.3% in overall deal activity during January 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 59 deals worth $644.3m were announced in January 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 55 deals.
Venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 41 deals which accounted for 69.5% of all deals.
In second place was M&A with 17 deals, followed by private equity with one transactions, respectively accounting for 28.8% and 1.7% of overall deal activity in the country’s technology industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in India’s technology industry with total deals worth $288.18m, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $200m and $156.12m, respectively.

The top five technology industry deals accounted for 75.8% of the overall value during January 2020.
The combined value of the top five technology deals stood at $488.23m, against the overall value of $644.3m recorded for the month.

1) Tiger Global Management’s $200m private equity deal with Think and Learn
2) The $185m acquisition of Paysense Services India Private Limtied by PayU
3) Steadview Capital Management and Tiger Global Management’s $39m venture financing of LogiNext Solutions
4) The $34.23m acquisition of Cerium Systems by Tech Mahindra
5) Accel, B Capital Group, IDG Ventures India, International Finance and Schroder Adveq Management’s venture financing of Smartpaddle Technology for $30m.
