Things to do on National Rum Day:
As National Rum Day is a rather unofficial kind of celebration, there aren’t a huge amount of events associated with it. However, it’s always worth asking at any rum-based bars if they’ve got any offers on. As for everything else, we’ve rounded up a few options.
National Rum Day Fest:

Description: We’re mostly covering UK-based events in our guide (since Verdict is UK-based) but this one seems to be the biggest of all the National Rum Day events, so it’s worth mentioning if you’re in Miami Beach. The Confidante Hotel is hosting a poolside party with tastings, complimentary drinks, and educational talks.

Diplomático Rum has taken over The Bloomsbury Club bar’s outdoor terrace section with an incredible rum bar. The whole space is decked out with palms and tropical blooms. Guests can enjoy rum flavoured slushies and sample some of the cocktails shared in our video. The event is not ticketed but guests are encouraged to book here.
Rum Tasting On The Golden Hinde:
When: 16 August 2018 – 6.30pm – 9pm BST
Where: The Golden Hinde, St Mary Overie Dock, Cathedral Street, London, SE1 9DE
Description: For those with an interest in rum’s seafaring history, this could be the perfect event. The replica of explorer Francis Drake’s famous ship is hosting an evening of rum tasting. The event will allow guests to sample 12 different rums onboard the historical vessel with experts guides to explain a little more about the history of rum and the sea.

Coffee, (Sugar) Cane & Cocktails:
When: 17 August 2018, 2pm – 3pm BST
Where: Mr Black Church of Coffee, Shop 4, Dray Walk, London, E1 6QR
Description: Any coffee lovers out there will definitely want a ticket to this special event, held the day after World Rum Day. On the plus side, that means it falls on a Friday so you can feel a little more relaxed about sipping some rum. Hosted by Mr Black’s the event will include a trip of cocktails including punches, tiki and the modern classic – Espresso Martinis.

Young’s Pubs events:
Young’s Pubs are hosting a summer of rum throughout August. Tickets for all these events can be purchased on the Young’s website. Here are just a small sample of the bespoke events going on but rum enthusiasts can look up their local pub to see what’s going on there.
Kraken Rum Ice Cream:
When: 11 August
Which pub: Old Brewery, Greenwich
Description: This year, sea beast of myth and legend, Kraken Rum, will be drifting ashore to showcase the rich black and smooth spirit. The Kraken Ice Cream Van will be popping up in a number of Young’s pub gardens, serving scoops of the insta-worthy Kraken black ice cream, laced with a generous splash of the distinct flavour. No tickets required.
Kraken Black Ink Society Masterclass:
When: 3 August (Islington), 18 August (Woolwich)
Which pub: Salt, Islington OR Dial Arch, Woolwich
Description: Join in a Black Ink Society Masterclass and discover the brand’s mysterious past with a sampling session and customise your own cocktail. Best in class? Walk away with a limited-edition bottle of Kraken.

Gosling Rum – The Family Tale
When: 10 August (Greenwich), 15 August (Bristol), 30 August (Fetcham), 7pm – 8.45pm BST
Which pub: Old Brewery, Greenwich – 10th August; Riverstation, Bristol – 15th August; The Bell, Fetcham – 30th August
Description: Discover the heritage of the Dark ‘n’ Stormy cocktail as Emily Gosling, eighth generation of the Gosling Rum dynasty, guides guests through the history of this 19th century rum; from the shipwreck that saw James Gosling land in Bermuda in 1806 to Shelia Gosling using her washing machine to spin cocktails. Be guided through an insightful sampling before rustling up your very own Dark ‘n’ Stormy.

Bacardi Daiquiri & Mojito Cocktail Masterclass
When: 2 August (Putney), 22 August (Dulwich)
Which pub: Queen Adelaide, Putney OR Wood House, Dulwich – 22nd August
Description: Shake and mix with the untameable Bacardi as guided on the ultimate education of how to create the Original Bacardi Mojito and Daiquiri. What’s more, as well as sampling one of the most awarded rums in the world, guests will be able to enjoy the new kids on the block; Bacardi Anejo Cuatro and Bacardi Ocho.
