OpenAI and Broadcom have entered into a collaboration to develop and deploy 10 Gigawatts (GW) of custom AI accelerators.
Under the agreement, OpenAI will handle the designing part of the AI accelerators and associated systems, with Broadcom supporting development and deployment.

The two firms have signed a term sheet outlining plans to roll out racks that combine OpenAI’s accelerators with Broadcom’s ethernet and connectivity solutions.
These racks are planned for installation across OpenAI’s data centres and those of its partners.

OpenAI indicated that designing its own hardware will allow it to apply technical insights from its work on advanced AI models directly to the underlying infrastructure.
For Broadcom, the partnership underscores the use of custom accelerators and ethernet networking for scaling AI data centre operations.
OpenAI’s current weekly active users are said to be over 800 million, spanning enterprises, small businesses, and developers.
The company stated that the collaboration aligns with its aim to ensure artificial general intelligence is widely accessible.
OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman said: “Partnering with Broadcom is a critical step in building the infrastructure needed to unlock AI’s potential and deliver real benefits for people and businesses.
“Developing our own accelerators adds to the broader ecosystem of partners all building the capacity required to push the frontier of AI to provide benefits to all humanity.”
In September 2025, CoreWeave signed an expanded agreement with OpenAI, securing a contract worth up to $6.5bn for infrastructure to support the training of the ChatGPT developer’s next-generation AI models.
This new deal raises the total value of CoreWeave’s contracts with OpenAI to nearly $22.4bn, following earlier agreements of up to $11.9bn in March 2025 and up to $4bn in May.
