Notably, the number of future of work-related patent applications in the technology industry was 19,641 in Q2 2024, versus 25,480 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 6% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Samsung Group filed the most future of work patents within the technology industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 391 future of work-related patents in the quarter, compared with 408 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Hitachi with 218 future of work patent filings, Huawei Investment (204 filings), and Canon (200 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 43% share of total patent filings
The largest share of future of work related patent filings in the technology industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 43%, followed by the US (21%) and Japan (7%). The share represented by China was 5% lower than the 48% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
