Supabase, an open-source Postgres development platform, has secured $150m in new funding and announced its acquisition of database start-up Turso to bolster its infrastructure for AI agent workloads.

GIC led the round, with Alphabet’s independent growth fund CapitalG, IronArc and SquarePeg also participating. The investment lands just four months after Supabase completed a $500m Series F in June 2026 that valued the business at $10.5bn post-money. That Series F, also led by GIC, had itself followed seven months after a $100m Series E in October 2025 at a $5bn valuation, taking total capital raised past the $1bn mark.

The latest $150m injection and the Turso acquisition are intended to accelerate product development around agent-driven databases. A portion of the new capital will also provide liquidity for employees.

According to Supabase, growth on the platform has intensified as AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex expand the pool of people building software and the volume of applications they create.

The company claims to be onboarding more than one million users and four million databases each month, with 70% of new databases generated by agents or AI-driven tools. That follows a 600% year-over-year rise in database numbers reported in June, when agents were already responsible for the majority of new deployments.

Supabase co-founder and CEO Paul Copplestone said: “The past year has been the fastest growth in our history by a wide margin.

“We’re grateful for the support from our existing and new investment partners like CapitalG. Their connections to the broader Alphabet ecosystem will be invaluable as we build for our next level of growth.”

The Turso acquisition is expected to address the growing requirement for lightweight, instantly available databases that can be spun up in vast quantities for individual agents.

Turso’s team rewrote SQLite from scratch as an open-source project, removing its single-writer constraint and other limitations for server workloads, and delivered it through a diskless, WAL-on-S3 architecture.

The result allows databases to be provisioned on demand on a per-agent basis at a fraction of conventional costs, both in the public cloud and through bring-your-own-cloud deployments. Customers using the platform include Superhuman, CTO.new, Sauna.ai, and Mastra.

Copplestone said: “The future is agents and the architecture Turso provides will help us accelerate Supabase as the backend platform for supporting that future.”

Turso founder Glauber Costa will join Supabase as Head of Agentic Services, alongside co-founder Pekka Enberg and the wider Turso team. The Turso platform will continue to operate and its codebase will remain open source, with users gaining a graduation path into standard Postgres through the Supabase ecosystem when their applications outgrow SQLite.

Costa said: “From the start of our journey, I’ve had as a goal to serve upwards of a billion databases to our customers. Being a part of Supabase, with its gargantuan developer success and ever-growing partner ecosystem will bring this goal closer.”

Founded in 2020, Supabase now counts more than 13 million developers on its platform. The company offers a complete backend spanning Postgres databases, authentication, storage, edge functions, real-time subscriptions, vector search and a marketplace of over 100 integrated partner tools.
