VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC) has officially opened its first 12in (300mm) wafer fabrication plant in Tampines, Singapore.
The facility, which broke ground in December 2024, was completed after a 22-month construction programme.

Established in September 2024, VSMC is a specialty foundry joint venture between Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) and NXP Semiconductors.
According to NXP, the Tampines plant has moved into risk production following the successful processing of its first sample lot, which delivered yields exceeding 99%. Volume manufacturing is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The Tampines fab will produce speciality semiconductors on mature nodes between 130nm and 40nm, spanning power management, mixed-signal, analogue and interposer technologies. These will serve customers across the automotive, industrial, consumer, mobile and high-performance computing sectors.
VSMC and VIS chairman Leuh Fang said: “Today’s opening ceremony marks a significant milestone for VSMC and reflects VIS’ long-term commitment to deepening its presence in Singapore while expanding its global footprint.
“Since establishing the joint venture in 2024, we have worked closely with NXP Semiconductors and our partners to complete construction of our first 12in fab.
“With the fab now officially operational, we will be better positioned to meet our customers’ growing demand for speciality IC manufacturing, further strengthen the resilience of the global semiconductor supply chain, and contribute to the continued growth of Singapore’s high-tech industry and semiconductor ecosystem.”
When operating at full capacity, which VSMC expects to reach by 2029, the plant is projected to turn out roughly 44,000 12in wafers each month and support around 1,600 jobs.
The facility runs on a fully automated smart manufacturing platform that uses artificial intelligence and digital systems to optimise production efficiency and service quality.
NXP president and CEO Rafael Sotomayor said: “Building on decades of operations and investment in Singapore, VSMC enhances our geographic resilience, supply control, and cost competitiveness, while advancing our differentiated hybrid manufacturing strategy.”
“Our planned manufacturing capacity at VSMC remains unchanged, helping us drive sustainable growth and deliver the innovative technologies that are enabling the next generation of intelligent edge and Physical AI systems.”
The plant is said to have been engineered to comply with both LEED certification requirements and Singapore’s Green Mark framework. The facility incorporates renewable energy solutions and resource efficiency measures as part of its operational design.
