China-based memory chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has started mass production of the G5 Platform, its fifth-generation dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) technology platform.
The announcement was made during the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention held in Hefei, China, where the company also revealed its latest LPDDR5X product line built on the new platform.

According to CXMT, the G5 Platform introduces several technical developments, including an active area half-pitch of 11.95nm for memory arrays.
The company states this narrows the feature size gap with leading international memory platforms.
The new manufacturing process uses a quadruple patterning technique, which repeats key lithography steps to achieve these smaller dimensions.
CXMT explained that improvements in process flow and materials have resulted in a capacitor aspect ratio of 45:1 and a reduced core cell array height of 6,762nm.
The company reported that these changes have enabled it to create smaller, denser memory cells. It also stated that the new platform can produce at least 50% more gross chip dies per wafer compared with its previous generation, based on an 8Gb chip baseline.
At the event, CXMT showcased two LPDDR5X chips, each offering 24Gb per die, said to be a 50% increase in storage capacity over the prior generation.
The chips are available in two packaging formats with 496-ball and 245-ball configurations, intended for use in smartphones and portable consumer devices.
CXMT stated that these products are already in mass production.
At the convention, CXMT vice president and head of its marketing centre Luo Xiaodong said: “Our process capability is now on par with the most advanced mass-produced nodes out there in the industry,” reported Reuters.
The company indicated it developed the G5 Platform using digital simulation tools and by working with domestic chip equipment suppliers on key manufacturing processes.
CXMT said its latest developments aim to offer electronics manufacturers an additional source for memory chips at a time when China is seeking to lessen dependence on foreign technology amid export restrictions introduced by the US in 2022.
CXMT, based in Hefei and listed on Shanghai’s STAR Market, is currently one of China’s major producers of DRAM, a type of memory used in multiple digital devices including smartphones and computers.
DRAM serves as short-term working memory, enabling devices to run applications and programmes efficiently.
The company has stated that it intends to continue its focus on advancing memory technology and supporting global demand for performance-oriented memory products.
