Tractian, a provider of physical AI platforms for asset-heavy sectors, has secured $130m in Series D funding, bringing its valuation to $1.4bn.
Sapphire Ventures led the investment, with co-leadership from M&G’s Catalyst. Other backers in the round included N47, Bosch Ventures, General Catalyst, Endeavor Catalyst, 53 Stations, Norte Ventures, Monashees, and Y Combinator.
Access deeper industry intelligence
Experience unmatched clarity with a single platform that combines unique data, AI, and human expertise.
Tractian’s platform is designed to monitor and diagnose the condition of critical industrial machinery using sensors that collect ultrasound, vibration, and other data.
These data streams are analysed by Tractian’s system, which is trained on extensive industrial failure datasets to identify potential problems and suggest remedial actions.
Tractian CEO and founder Igor Marinelli said: “This funding round will allow us to scale our platform even further, providing manufacturers, data centre operators, defence companies, utilities and more with strategic insights to help optimise the health of their machines, close the alert-to-action gap and eliminate unplanned downtime and lost revenue.”
The company reports that over 2,000 critical facilities across the globe use its technology to help ensure continuity of operations and minimise unforeseen equipment failures.
Tractian lists well-known clients such as Eli Lilly, McKesson, Whirlpool, Coca-Cola, Cummins, and Embraer.
The technology is also deployed by customers in mission-critical data centres and government infrastructure.
Sapphire Ventures partner Anders Ranum said: “The AI boom is driving a massive build-out of physical infrastructure, and the companies building and running it can’t afford equipment failures.
“Tractian is meeting the moment, winning big industrial customers and building a Physical AI platform that gets sharper with every machine it monitors.
“When we led Tractian’s Series C, we believed that combining hardware, data, and AI would give the company a real edge. Since then, our thesis has only strengthened. We’re thrilled to once again lead Tractian’s latest round and continue our partnership with Igor and his team.”
According to industry data cited by Tractian, the world’s 500 largest industrial companies face unplanned downtime costs estimated at 11% of annual revenue, or about $1.4tn a year. The average age of fixed industrial assets is now 24 years.
Additionally, research projects that over 2.1 million manufacturing jobs may go unfilled by 2030 as experienced workers leave the sector.
Tractian states its systems are in use across various industries where machinery uptime is critical, including pharmaceutical, food and beverage, oil and gas, data centres, government and defence, energy, and water utilities.
